Launching advent calendar
Struggling to stay consistent with posting? Discover how I''ll turn December into a habit-building challenge with AdventCalendar.tech! Learn about my journey, the tools I used, and how this Christmas-themed project came to life. Follow along for insights on self-hosting and staying motivated!
For months I had difficulties to find motivation and push myself to post more often so I decided to try something different this December.
I heard that to form a habit one must be constant and repeat an action every day for a long period of time, minimum 3 weeks. This info gave me an idea, "from the first of December, until Christmas day there's roughly 3 week (plus 4 days), what if I do a post every day until then?" and this every day until Christmas is basically an advent calendar.
So after that I decided to find a way to be accountable, I thought maybe I can post about it on the internet, but let's be honest who would care to check on me if I stick to that? I already tried in the past without success so something different is needed.
I decided that a public leader board is needed, somewhere that can check on me and can keep track of my posts. even better if it has some collaboration features so other can see review my links and see if I don't stick to posting every day.
That is how AdventCalendar.tech (I know that's a very nice domain) was born. I've written it during two weeks in November after work and I'll launch it on the second day of December on product hunt.
I've written this site with Laravel, Livewire, Volt, Folio and Tailwind. The ugly design is thought to resemble Christmas colors but unfortunately I'm not very good at design. This month I'll try to publish more guides on how I self host this site.
Thank you
Daniel
